This is the May 1969 cover of the "Hurricane". It was the
magazine of the II Field Force, Viet Nam. Featured are articles on scouts and
trackers. This is "Mesh" a scout dog that was a part of the Tracker Team.
Apparently this issue "went to the dogs". Thanks to Ron Eitel for scanning and forwarding. |

The Tracker Team featured was the 76th IDCT attached to
"Redcatcher", 199th Light Infantry Brigade. The caption reads: "The dogs
follow the scent to its source, which usually means trouble for the enemy." From Tom
Verhelle - Charles Freeland and Shane are the Tracker Handler and Lab...thanks for all of
these names, Tom!

This caption reads: "Nothing throws them off the track, not even
streams." The 76th IDCT combined tracker and scout dogs on their teams. Note the
scout dog and handler pictured. From Tom again: Shane, Charles Freeland, Doug Polley,
Richard France off to the side, James Whistler with his Scout Dog, Missy, George Cox and
Grant Coates!

A little K-9 PT? This caption reads: " 'Mesh' warms up on a special course at the Redcatcher basecamp in Long Binh." | |
This looks like a Tracker Team leader with a scout dog and handler on a
mission. The caption reads: "The tracker dogs and their handlers form a powerful team
to find the elusive enemy". Tom has come to the rescue on this, too:
James Whistler, Missy and Richard France. Thanks to Grant Coates, this photo is now
identified completely!
