This Page was sent to us by Ron Eitel. It comes from an article on Combat
Trackers and was published in OCTOFOIL the Ninth Division Magazine. The Issue is
April-June 1969. The picture on the left is Bob Keen and his dog, Joe. |
|
|
|
This picture is of Bob Keen with Joe and his Team. The caption from
the article reads, "Tracker Dog Handler forms the nucleus of the Team. The Dog is put
on the scent and when he finds the source, the Team spreads out and prepares to make a
thorough search of the immediate area for the object of the search." |

|
"Tugging at the leash, a Tracker Dog edges across a
log bridge, apparently not realizing it is not that easy for humans. Very few
obstacles will hold back the Trackers who have been trained to track through water-soaked
land by using the scent in the air." This and the next two pictures are of
Handler Woods, (first name and info. unknown to us.) The dog is Prince, who was first
handled by Gary Coon of C.T.T. #6. Prince was a British Tracker and came from BJWS. |

This picture illustrates the bond between a Dog and his Handler. The
Dog and Handler must work as one if the mission is to be a success....even if it is a
nasty Labrador like Sambo. |

|
Handler (?) Woods and Prince. The caption read, " The Dog and Handler
need to learn to live with each other under any circumstances. The Handler feeds, grooms
and exercises the Dog until they are a close knit team. When a Handler DEROS' a new
man takes over all the responsibilities until there is again a tight knit team." |
|
|
|
"Tracking requires a lot of long, hard work. Swimming across a
swollen stream or slogging through mud, is hard, energy-sapping work for both man and Dog
." We will have copies of this Article and others at the Reunion for you all to
see. |
