"62IPCT area at Phouc Vinh, mid
69. After suggesting to SFC Adams, the platoon Sgt, that it might be easier to get support
helicopters to pick up our teams on the pad behind us if it were better marked, Pop
scrounged paint from the engineers. He couldnt get much of any one color, and chose
to mix them all together. Unfortunately the result was Trackers in 12-foot
high letters on the roof, plus all the barrels around the buildings, in a tasteful rose
PINK! You could see it from across the runway and was not only cause for ribbing from 1/9
Cav, but also credited as being a great aiming point since we started taking 107mm and
122mm rockets shortly thereafter." Dick Baumer |
